Health + Safety

ISA requires that all participants [students and faculty] to have insurance for the duration of the program abroad. A Blanket Accident and Sickness Policy is included in the program price, unless your university opts out of the coverage. This policy includes the following benefits:

  • Accidental Death and Dismemberment
  • Medical Expenses
  • Repatriation of Remains
  • Emergency Medical Evacuation
  • Emergency Reunion
  • Trip Interruption

For a full description of coverage, please see the downloadable PDF.

If your university elects not to include insurance coverage in the program cost, your university will need to provide proof of insurance for all program participants [including faculty leaders] to ISA. Learn more about ISA’s Health and Safety Support.

We recommend that all program faculty leaders and participants maintain comprehensive health insurance while abroad. This is particularly important if a faculty leader or participant has any pre-existing conditions, but is also beneficial if he/she has an injury or illness while abroad and requires further treatment upon his/her return home. ISA recommends faculty leaders and program participants consult with their current insurance provider to confirm coverage policies while traveling abroad.
